The Pledge:

What we lack in inches we make up in honesty

They came in 2013 … and haven’t stopped coming since!

Self-proclaimed brothers Joaquin and Jurgen Noff are dedicated to the celebration of old school punk-infused heavy rock.

Officially coming together in March, 2013, the lads, who hail from the western suburbs of Sydney, Australia, took little time in unleashing the first of their many sonic unicorns, in the shape of their maiden single, I Had A Little Girl.

A precursor to the August, 2013 16-track release, Hand Shandy EP, it showcased an extremely raw version of the band, with Joaquin taking care of all instrumentation, and Jurgen attacking the mic.

“It’s crazy how much the sound has changed in such a short space of time,’’ says Joaquin, of those primary efforts. “I think that it definitely served as a perfect introduction to what we’re all about though – both in terms of style and satirical self-deprecating lyrical direction.’’

Those aware of the band, will already be well aware that the initial EP has been followed by an ever-increasing list of releases, including last year’s ‘’official debut’’ long-player, The Best Ten Seconds Of Your Life, and most recently, their 2015 single, Sit, Stay, Heal … Play Dead!

“At the moment we’re two tracks short of having recorded and released our 100th, which is pretty fucked up when you consider the amount of time we’ve been at it,’’ said Jurgen.

“We’re in a great position; in the sense that we are our own masters … we do things completely at our own pace. A passion for the tunes and belief in our own bullshit has meant that that pace has been frantic as far as the output is concerned.”

While the releases have flowed thick and fast, The Noffs have played just one gig since formation – a headlining spot on August 16, 2014, at western Sydney venue, Rooty Hill RSL.

“That was a great night,” said Joaquin. “It was good to have cousin Flogan join us behind the drum kit. There’s something about playing this sort of music live that really gets you going.”

In what can be viewed as a major coup for the band, album track, Slaughtering Of Lambs, was chosen by producers of independent Australian horror film, There’s Something In The Pilliga, to appear on the soundtrack.

The film is currently appearing in selected cinemas around Australia and is expected to be released on DVD/Bluray via Monster Pictures.

“That’s a complete spin-out,” said Jurgen. “We’re both horror fans and in many ways this is a real dream come true. The fact that Rose Tattoo are also on the soundtrack is pretty darn special as well.”

In recent times The Noffs have received much in the way of support from New York-based internet radio station, liveandloudradio.com.

Station master and DJ, Rob Russo, has kindly added much of the band’s discography to the station’s playlist.

“I really can’t thank these guys enough, for helping to spread the word,’’ Joaquin said. “We still get a kick every time we hear one of our tracks being played in the same block as the likes of the Ramones and so many other cool bands.”

As thanks to the station, The Noffs wrote and recorded Live And Loud [The Ballad Of The Ripper] as a gift to Rob and his listeners.

To date, each of The Noffs releases have been made available as free downloads via media service Soundcloud. It’s a practice they intend to continue.

“Heaps of bands say it’s not about the money … as they try and sell you a new t-shirt or key ring,” said Jurgen. “We can honestly say – IT IS NOT ABOUT THE MONEY!

“We’d like to say it was about the sex, but we’ve all got mirrors, so that’s not a likely scenario, so the reality is, for us, it is truly all about the music.”

The Noffs aim to release their next full length album mid-way through this year and have plans to perform live again … at some place … some time!
